Messy messy art journaling!

Sometimes I want my art journal pages to look pretty and sometimes I just want to make a big fat mess. I made this page on a big fat mess day. Obviously.

More often than not the art journal pages which I end up loving the most are the pages where I really let go and just enjoy the process without worrying about the end result. Strangely, this is actually quite hard to do ... working to a structure comes much more easily.

This page started out as a simple bit of collage (magazine pages) and touches of acrylic paint:

But then I almost absent-mindedly kept adding a bit more ... and a bit more .... It's ages since I added stitching to a journal page although I used to do it all the time:

At the last moment I added some black splats (a high risk move but totally worth it for the therapeutic benefits):

I was dying to try out my new sequin waste stamp from The Artistic Stamper (this is going to become one of my faves I can just tell), and I love a bit of bold black on a page:

And no page is complete without a bit of oil pastel and some lovely washi tape. And can you see the bit of magazine/catalogue page peeking through? For your information, Cath Kidston and John Lewis have THE BEST catalogue pages for collage!!

OK, now I'm off to clear up the mess ;-)

  10. You obviously enjoyed "letting go" and I entirely understand just how difficult that can be. Great results :)

  12. Fabulous "mess", Kate. Wouldn't it be great if we (meaning I/me) could 'let go' more often!
