Drawing in my journal ...

Ink sprays by Dylusions for Ranger

I drew this figure a while ago, spent ages colouring her in and then decided I didn't like her. She looked too 'cute', so I put her in with a pile of 'stuff' on my desk and forgot about her. But then when I was fiddling about I found her again, and tried her against this very grungy inky background and I thought she looked ok!

I like to mop up any spare ink left on stencils etc in my journal - a trick I learned from Dina Wakley and Dyan Reaveley. It ends up looking something like this and makes for a great background:

I added a few little extras to the background, but mostly I left it as it was, and even left some white space *gasp*! I'm not usually very good at leaving white space ;-)

I used Basic Backgrounds stamp by Dylusions on the heart and dress, and then scribbled over it with my new favourite - liquid pearls

Now, I can't actually decide if this page is finished or not. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

I found a scrap of fabric that I coloured with Dylusions inks - can't decide whether to add it or not. What do you think?

If you fancy doing a bit of drawing in your art journal come and take a drawing class with me! See the details *here*.

Byee for now ....

  4. I think she's been waiting for just this moment when she gets all the glory. She's wonderful. The heart is effective too, and the fabric just pics up the colour of the heart too, I think you should keep it. Michelle x

  9. I love this, Kate and I know how you feel about the white space, cos I'm the same, but it looks so good! I'm also pretty sure that if you start journalling, there won't be a lot of it left, unless you choose to highlight it by leaving it blank. Great colours and lovely colouring on the angel x

  10. She reminds me of an Angel; missing her wings so she's sad and wondering how she could get them back again! Fab background and I must say I quite like the material along the bottom.

  17. Hiya Kate.
She is lovely, I love the way you have drawn her aswell. Art was the only O level i got, but I don't do drawing anywhere near as much as I used to, must get back into it. Angie and I have booked the Graphic 45 class with Dy in June, but we want to come and do a class with you later in the year.
I like this page just the way it is, and love the bit of white space, it looks great.

I like the white space. It gives they eye a place to "rest." Love your lady, she's unusually beautiful.

  20. Better late than never with my April posting, but you look as if you are keeping busy - lovely use of different techniques.

  21. Oh quite different from some of your pages - and I like the white space even if I am scared of it. When undecided about an element I usually think that if you're hesitating you already know the answer - if it was right it would already be on there!

    1. Hi Kate. I have several favourite mediums! I love acrylic paints and Dylusions ink sprays, but for colouring in images I love Distress inks by Ranger. Thanks for asking!
