Paints and inks by Dylusions
This week my wonderful friend Marsha of Tumblefish Studios sent me a fabulous surprise package in the post. To say I was excited by the contents is an understatement :-) Included was a fabulous vintage time book from the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad company, dating from 1911, I LOVE it! I opened the package at approx 2 pm, and this page had been completed by approx 6 pm LOL! If you look closely at the photo you will notice that I have left some of the original text peeking through because it is such a great feature, and I think I will use just alternate pages in the book leaving some of the pages in their gorgeous original state.
The images are from Marsha's new Flower Land Gnome sheets available in her Etsy shop here. Here's a closer look:
And this is how the book looked before I got my hands on it:
Yesterday I taught a wonderfully full and busy class at Art from the Heart (UK) on Art Journal backgrounds. We worked hard, had a lot of fun, learned a lot, and made a lot of mess! (note to dyan who is currently at CHA - it's ok, we tidied up - honest!)
We started making colourwheels (bit of grumbling here if I'm honest!) because making a wheel is a great way to understand how your paints work together. But we perservered and then got to work painting, blending spraying, splodging and stencilling backgrounds. Just look at the hard work and concentration here! :
And the ladies produced some fabulous fabulous backgrounds. Just look at these:
And by the afternoon we even got as far as adding some images and a few quotes:
(All images and quotes by Dyans downloads here)
One of the ladies was a complete newbie who had never used the paints / inks etc before at all bt still managed to produce things like this:
Way to go!!
Great work everyone, it was a privilege working with you :-)

ReplyDeleteWish I had been there the work looks brilliant. Hope you will do another one. x C
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I adore that new journal and the new page you did. So, sos cute....of course. And your class looks like a lot of fun, oh what I wouldn't give to sit down and learn and play with you all day. I think you are so talented and you combined my personal love of stamps with your journals and images. I'm a big fan of Marsha's as well, she's another one who is so talented. What a nice gift she sent to you.
ReplyDeleteI love your new journal - and you're page makes such a sensitive use of it. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteYour class looks great too. It's good to just sit all day and focus on something like backgrounds - not something I seem to get round to at home!
Gorgeous gorgeous - I've been splashing paint around in sincere imitation. Pity it looks crap! Still that's how you learn innit? Lucky class to have you ....
ReplyDeleteOMG - I am swooning over that little time book. How wonderful is that! Great page produced with it too.
ReplyDeleteYour ladies looked so engrosed and produced some scrumptious pages too. Great work ladies.
Those backgrounds are to die for, I wish I could take a class from you. Isn't Marsha the best, she is so generous. Your journal is great with those old pages showing through.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the railway book.....what a fab pressie!!
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing. I really love the way everyone started with basically the same materials and turned them into something uniquely their own.
ReplyDeleteI would give my left arm to be in one of your classes, sadly, it would be a long trip from Los Angeles. Do you ever do online classes?
ReplyDeleteAll of the work is so inspiring!
What fantastic work from those ladies! Did you crack a whip because they all look like they are on task? hehehe.
ReplyDeleteThose images from Marsha are fab too and that book...well...how green am I? I like that you've left some of the original text showing through and the idea of alternating the pages too :D x x x
OMG. I love the colors, and the time book, that is totally cool. I never seem to find those gems and i have a couple of cool antique shops just up the road. This just rocks!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh! Your post makes me leap with joy! What an absolutely gorgeous page you created. Some people just slap images down just as they are and call it a day, which is fine. But what truly catches my breath and inspires me is when artists like you make images/materials your own, works them and molds them into whatever they have to say that day using their own voice and vision. Once again you have created something beyond my imagination - and another new most favorite piece. I so wish I could take your class!
ReplyDeleteAwesome page and a terrific class, Kate!!! I'll bet that a good time was had be all who attended!!! Hugs, Terri xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteHow awesome it would be if I could join one of those classes .... Well, at least I ordered a bunch of Dylusion spraypaints and I can't wait to play, hope they arrive soon ;-) Absolutely gorgeous pages !
ReplyDeleteAll such great stuff ....... love it !!
