2 pages from my A4 Moleskine art journal
Ok, today is a bit of a photo-fest. I told you, we worked really hard all weekend at the 3 days of workshops with the wonderful Dina Wakley at the equally wonderful Art from the Heart, and I've got the photos to prove it!
On day 2 Dina encouraged us to get lots of layers and texture into our pages, and as she says, to get the layers you have to put the work in. We had to aim for 20 layers on the page. I think I managed it.....
Here's a large scale piece I made using a star stencil. This is HUGE for me - at one time I only made ATCs! But this piece measures 15" x 11". I finished it off at home with some stitching.
And finally (well, for today - there's still more!) this is a great way to make yourself a journal. First we coloured our backgrounds using acrylic paints and Altered Originals spray inks (in yummy new colours), and finished it off with a few splats:
And then turned it into a mini journal like this:
Stamp by Stampotique
(but owned by Dina. We were all fighting over this one!!)
Ok, that's it for today......but there's more to come!
Byeee for now.
I'm in love with your little women !!!
ReplyDeleteStunning. I love the little girl stamps, they really go with this journal. Beautiful work Kate. xx
ReplyDeleteWow Kathryn...looks like you had a fantastic weekend..those pages are so lush and look like they need to be stroked to 'feel' the depth in them..Kirsti x
ReplyDeleteLOVE that little journal but I love all your pages. Yours look that little bit different from those of other bloggers I've seen - great stuff. The star piece is fab! So I need to work on more layers? I think my problem is that I don't wait for it to dry before adding more - must try harder, he, he.
ReplyDeleteOoh! That stamp never made it up our end of the table - I love it!! What's the artist's name again? Your mini book turned out great. xx

Man, You are such an inspiration. Really- my muse was screaming in my ear the other night that I should make calendars for everyone for the holidays as gifts, and he (my muse is a 5 yr old boy, I think :)) was showing me your calendars in my head. I actually have never really thought about the layer and such when I have done art before- but I guess I have worked it in a bit. I did some layering in my sketchbook because of your past posts and will work more in now on my upcoming gift project.
ReplyDeletebtw- my name is also Kathryn (spelled correctly-lol). Thats what first attracted me to the page-
Just gorgeous Kate

I love that little journal, it's gorgeous! I have such a hard time with layers...I can't imagine doing 20 layers on mine! Maybe it's because I usually use acrylic paint and it just looks soo thick!

ReplyDeleteKathryn, I adore those stars you did when you were working with Dina. Those pages turned out fantastic. I think I might have to try the star template thing. Of course since you are already so very talented, these techniques just bring your artwork that much further towards being exceptional. Love these pages you made, so awesome!
ReplyDelete20 layers? Wow! Can't imagine how you get that amount in :) Gorgeous work. Love all your journal pages.
