It's my day off work today WOOP WOOP! And so I was just browsing the internet (as you do) when I came across this tutorial by Dina Wakley. I have to say I was DEEPLY disappointed to miss Dina when she was in the UK recently but unfortunately as a teacher I can't pick and choose my days off work. She has to come back, she has to!
Anyway, this is a fab little tutorial on how to create a background using spray inks by Ranger so I just had to have a go. Here's my full page. It's a bit clumsy but you have to experiment with new things right? I added a label off a fleece top I got recently by North Face. I'm not exactly your mountaineering type, but I took the 'never stop exploring' motto to mean never stop exploring anything ie: art. But I'm wearing my North Face fleece as I'm doing it so that's ok :-) I'm sure that's what North Face intended it for too.
I haven't quite mastered the 'white' parts on the page as Dina so often refers to. I seem to have an urge to get as much colour on the page as possible but I'm working on it.
This is the scrap of card I started experimenting first on today. Yummy colours :-) I haven't thought what I'm going to do with it yet......... I might cut it up and make ATCs with it.
Thanks for all your comments on my last post. I'm very encouraged by the fact that you all seem to rummage in the freezer for unidentified remains LOL! Seems like there are a lot of different names for 'freezer surprise':
Pot luck (Terri), Freezer Tea (Jude), Cold box - hot box (tracy) and concoction (faerielore) HA HA HA HA! Think I'll just ring my husband and ask him if he wants concoction for tea! You're all as bad as me :-)))
Love this - I had a go too but don't have any inks other than alcohol and they didn't work...I can feel some new purchases coming on...lol...xox
ReplyDeleteThis is outstanding!! I love everything about it, and the color is WOW!!! Nice work!!
ReplyDeleteWow! That turned out really well!! Very Dina-esque with a Kate-ish twist!! Saw the link for the tutorial on Ponderings and intending having a go this weekend. Love the music sheet and the sentiment. xx

ReplyDeleteWe usually refer to those freezer teas as duberyferkins
Hi Kate
ReplyDeleteDelicious art as usual. I hope your teatime surprise is just as tasty.I'm with you on colour - surely "white" just means contrast!
I missed Dina too as it sold out before I got my hospital date confirmed but that's done with now so my finger is poised to click book as soon as any new dates are announced.
Kate
ooh beautiful Kate. love your scrap card colours - really yummy. off to have a look at the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteThis is superb, love love love the colour and design
ReplyDeletehugs June xxxxx
Going to find it now! It is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteIts all in the splatter Kate! You've done a fantastic page here - gorgeously painty, grungily colourful and it has your 'stamp' on it! (I was one of the lucky people who attended not one but TWO of Dina's workshops!) and she does advocate white on pages, not just white paint but white space. Something I've found difficult to achieve! Paint gets everywhere and covers my white bits up!
ReplyDeleteFabulous Kate. Love the colours. Thanks for the link, off to have a look.
ReplyDeleteOoo I love it! From a distance looks such subtle colouring then up close it's colour mayhem. Fabulous!

ReplyDeleteCan't wait to take a peek at the link! Love, love, LOVE this luscious color explosion!!! Looks like it takes a ton of effort and it's gorgeous!!! Hugs, Terri xoxo
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous. I'm taking Dina's course and I've been experimenting, it's really exciting stuff, love your colours. xx
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff.. looks fabulously inky!
ReplyDeleteLovely lovely papers, such gorgeous colours too. I think I need to read her tutorials xx
ReplyDeleteYou did a fabulous job!! Her online classes are great too - if she doesn't come back soon. :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about white spaces - I tend to want to fill the page with color too, and if you add some gesso over it, it just mixes with the color!! I need to play with it a bit more too.
Stop it, stop it - you are a bad influence! I am dying to get messy at the moment, but I am soooo behind on my college work and I haven't finished the atcs I am doing for Marion's swap yet, but I can't allow myself the play time yet. In fact, what I am doing here - I'm supposed to be working now! Aaaargh.....
ReplyDeleteI have only just found your blog but I LOVE it - you are doing the kind of work I aspire to, so I will be back for more inspiration that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteWith love from an exiled northerner!
