I do like splashing inks around (see previous post) but most of all I like acrylic paint. I've got more control over the colours and the way the paint behaves than I have with the inks (and I really AM a control freak!). I love the way I can build up layers in areas and add more colour in parts, stamp on it, splash paint around and then add inks as well! Here's a close up of the background so you can see how it looked before I wrote on it:
It occurred to me during the school holidays that sometimes sitting around doing not very much leads to a lot more sitting around doing not very much. Know what I mean? I spend half my life moaning about being stressed at work, too busy, too much to do bla bla bla, but actually there's nothing like a bit of stress to juice up your art is there?
There must be happy medium but I haven't found it yet.......Bye for now
More fantastic art work Kate - you are a star...xoxo
ReplyDeleteLove it. It's good to see how much you have put on the page before the writing. I just love the 'pickled babies' in your jars!! xx
ReplyDeleteyes, in fact, I think it's lifes' continual tension that feeds us artists! we take it in, and then translate it for the world to see it and feel it and hopefully to make sense of it all, to understand it!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing! your acrylic excursions are brilliant...and from one control freak to another, I know what you mean!
ciao bella
creative carmelina was here!
Another lovely page! I love seeing your pages before and after writing- just goes to show how much goes into them.
ReplyDeleteLove your work - but, it may be me, your pages are becoming rather weird... :)
ReplyDeleteAgree wholeheartedly with what you've written and the colours and page are fab!
ReplyDeleteCor your background is super Kate. :) Not so sure about the babies! Lovely to see how your page came together.xx
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean the more time I have to waste the less I get done. And I've wasted alot of time moaning about life. It is when I quite crying about things and just do that things seem to get better and art seems to happen also. By the way I love your pages.
ReplyDeletefabbily painted page Kate. I'm also a great fan of those jar babies
ReplyDeleteI'm chuckling at 'the pickled babies' statement! I call 'em spooky :) But I LOVE the diversity of art, the freedom to create and to interpret to our hearts content. I think this page is fabulous Kate! That background is just gorgeous with the dribbles and the splatters...It lends itself very nicely to your spooky pickled babies!
ReplyDeleteThat's so true...think we're all a bit unbalanced when it comes to work/life/art!! Fantastic page, love the freaky bottled creatures. Not much creating going on here - shifting rooms round for my new craft space...the mess and random selection of furniture everywhere is doing my head in but trying to see the bigger picture!! It WILL be worth it!! xx
ReplyDeleteI love your spooky people in those bottles! You have inspired me to keep that promise to myself, made ages ago, to work on a journal of this kind. Maybe when I've finished this years journal in a box project .... or maybe I'll just do both at the same time!
ReplyDeleteJust love your little specimens!
ReplyDeleteThink you might have something there Kate - good point. The background is lovely - keep at it love all the mediums you have used.
ReplyDeleteThe dolls are a bit scary! lol :)
Kate,
ReplyDeleteI love your painting, and I have to agree with you! Sitting around for me, leads to much more of it. I always feel that I work better when I don't have a lot of time on my hands...
WOW this is gorgeous everything about this page is perfect, the colouring is amazing and those creepy dolls in jars are awesome !!!! xxxx
ReplyDeleteI so agree with the sentiments of your journal page!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful page though. Love the use of the gold paint - still think the dolls are scary though lol!

I was wondering what writing pens you use? I like to paint my pages with acrylic but I've noticed my pen doesn't work on it and I'm not sure what to do? Your page is lovely by the way, I'm sorry, I should've said that first.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous and I love your header :) So another blog I've got to add to the ones I follow ;)
ReplyDeleteAnne xx
Just had to comment again after scrolling down and seeing more of your fabulous work :) I adore it; I just love the colours you use - scrummy. I need more of the Ranger spray colours I've only got 2; now I need some lighter colours. Ooh you make me want to play but I really must get some sewing done today!!!
