Journaling the junk way!

 Bird stamp by Invoke Arts

Just another quickie page in my junk journal. I have discovered that journaling on junk is totally free-ing (is that even a word?!) I painted the background mostly with my fingers; I like that. Without wanting to sound too new-agey it gives me a real sense of connecting with my page. I came across the quote 'If they give you ruled paper, write the other way' in the book I am currently reading (The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold), and I thought, yup, that's me, just ever-so-slightly rebellious ;-)

I had a scrap of old text lying on my desk and I spotted this quote. If I go hunting for a quote I can never find one, but if I happen to glance at an old scrap something leaps out at me. Why is that? I had to look the word 'moithered' up as I had never heard of it. Apparently it means to harass or bother. Now I know what it means I must remember to include it in my daily wafflings.

Here's how it looks with the other page in my journal. They just overlap each other. Don't forget though, these pages used to be a box that held cereal bars LOL.

  1. I normally shy away from reds as a primary colour on a page but you've made me really like the way they look with your work. I think I'll have to try and do some experimenting soon.

    1. Gill - I have got SO many layers on this page! I think the golden rule for layering acrylics is to let each layer / separate colour dry to avoid making mud. Once dry you can keep adding as many layers and colours as you like!

  11. Oh I had to take time out to comment (I'm a stalker, lo). LOVE your page and I too LOVE to do my backgrounds with my fingers/hands. Actually whenever something doesn't 'feel' right, it's always on pages where I used a brush to apply paint, then I just slap some paint on with fingers and voila..... I feel much much better. Now my page may not look better but that's not the point. Love the bright colors and love those quotes. Again, like you I never find a quote when I am looking for one..... so I can totally relate to you. :-)

  20. A fab page, and a brill quote when we're in the middle of SATS! Love this junk journalling idea. Do I really have time to start something new? Perhaps not... maybe when this one-woman-sweatshop lark is over, by then it'll be New Year - a very good time to start something new. I'll continue to get inspired, doing art by proxy through you. Thank you xox

  25. 'Mithered' is a very Midlands word. Haven't heard it for a long time but definitely remember it being used in my childhood and later.
