Calendars, holidays and doodling.

Woop woop! I'm on top of this challenge!! I'm up-to-date and feeling smug :-) But now there is just the little problem of getting ready for June ..... LOL! If you are still part of this challenge (and I'm so pleased to say that many of you are), then you can link up to your blog post at the end of this post, and/or join us on Flickr and facebook too. If you haven't joined the facebook group yet, then do! It's a super-easy way to see everyone's fabulous calendar pages all in one place. There's inspiration by the bucket load.

Now, talking of facebook, I finally got round to creating a page for thekathrynwheel art:

I'd love it if you would come and 'like' my page. It's just a little space on the world-wide web for me to share my art :-) Less of the waffle, and more of the art!

Not much art been going on here recently. School holidays kind of take up my time and attention and I like to devote a few days to my kids. We took a short trip to the North East of England, to a very beautiful spot and just chilled out:

Fab view of Bamburgh castle from the beach.

There's miles and miles of beach....

A boat wreck AND a castle -  great for photographers.

Seahouses harbour.

I saw puffins for the first time ever! So exciting. They are the comical clowns of the bird world!

Spot the seal? LOL!

Of course I had to take something 'to do' on holiday - I'm not the best at sitting still and relaxing, so along came the doodle book and a few pens. Most of this is still work in progress, but it kept me well entertained:

Er...my doodling spilled over on to the final book page!

A good place to practise handwriting.

Some of you have been asking what I carry as my art kit on holiday. Believe it or not, I travel very light when it comes to art supplies, and make do with what I can fit inside a small pencil case:

1 x Faber Castell PITT pen (superfine in black), 1 x Uniball Signo (white), a few paint pens (Sharpie, Posca, Montana), Stabilo Aquarabelle pencils (black and coloured), a few Prismacolor pencils, and last but not least a pencil sharpener.
I don't carry a pencil as I draw in pen, and I don't carry a rubber as I don't believe in rubbing out!
The Stabilo pencils and the Prismacolor pencils are both fab for adding dense colour, especially to coloured backgrounds. They produce strong colour on even the darkest of backgrounds - quite different to ordinary coloured pencils. And you know I LOVE colour ;-)

OK, here's the calendar link for completed May pages and/or June ready-to-go:

  6. I only own two pens and neither one writes well. So, all that color you take on vacation makes me smile.

I was SO glad you put that grin after the seal photo. At first, I thought it was one of those photos where the seals had been tortured. So, so glad that was not the case. Other than that one that made my heart skip a beat, the rest of the photos were incredible. I love viewing your part of the world!!

  10. My very favourite place is that wee corner of the north East and the combination of a magnificent Castle overlooking that wide sandy bay is so magical

Just loving your doodling book - am very doodally challenged so thinking of getting this for my birthday

The Prisma pencils - my local craft shop has some in - but there are two kinds - Premier and Verithian I think - which are the best onces?

    1. Hi Suzy, I use Prismacolor Premier because they are wax-based so unlike other pencil crayons. (I don't know about Verithin). Because they are wax, they blend beautifully, you can layer them, and the colour holds even over a brightly coloured background. I LOVE 'EM!! x

  16. Great post Kate love reading about your travels and the photo's are brill, love going to Bamburgh castle too, purely in a geology and history sense you understand :) nothing to do with the best fish n chips in the world! Seahouses has fab rocks on the wavecut platform, they're called Bucket rocks, I'll explain why later, far too boring to type out! Your journal pages are awesome too, I really love all the detail you've packed into them. Michelle xx
