Playing with gelli

So, have you managed to get yourself a Gelli Arts printing plate yet? Ooh, they are such a lot of fun :-) I had a play with mine last week in preparation for the art journaling weekend I was teaching at Art from the Heart, because mono-printing is a really great way to make backgrounds in your art journals.

I hand cut a leaf mask to use on this page (inspired by the fab Dina Wakley):

This page was mainly the 'second' print from the plate, and I had done this on a loose sheet of card, but I really wanted it to be in my journal so I just taped it in with a bit of washi tape and I think it looks cool like that:

This next page started off as a bit of a disaster ... I began with bright yellow and added red circles through a stencil which looked far too Pudsey for my liking (not that I have anything against Pudsey ... just not in my art journal). One of the good things about working directly in an art journal is that I feel compelled to work with my disasters and put them right, rather than throw it in the bin which is tempting at times! I managed to tone it down by brayering a bit of white over it, and then adding some more colours, and now I am happy with it!

The Gelli Arts plates were met with great enthusiasm by my students at the weekend and they made some fantastic pages using it, and all so different! They kindly agreed to let me share them here, so here are some of the Gelli results from the weekend:

  6. I don't own a gelli plate but I make them myself with gelatine... I agree it is awesome to work with! I made tons of monoprints that are now waiting for further use/work on it... I love the bright colours you used and it makes me want to start mono printing right now - hmmm, I better not... I have approximately 50 prints laying around already and cannot store another bunch ;)

  12. I've heard so many great things about the new Gelli Arts/Plate products, I guess that's the next thing on my list. I've personally just discovered Pan Pastels and not only am I totally in love with them , but I'm learning how to get the most out of them. Speaking of which, your last article on the Pan Pastels in the Craft Stamper magazine was wonderful and it couldn't have come at a better time, I had just purchased my first set of Pan Pastels and while I was trying them out I had my Craft Stamper wide open to your article. Initially I didn't think I was the right kind of artist to use the Pan Pastels, I was thinking only really great artists (like the amazing Kate here) use that type of product, but then I decided I would try them any way and I'm so glad I did. Hope all is well with you on your end of the world, Happy Holidays to you and yours.
