Journal time!

Not sure where time goes these days, but I haven't had a play around in my journal for ages. Far too long in fact. But on Saturday I will be teaching a class at the wonderful Art from the Heart, Harrogate UK (home of all things Dylusional) called 'Draw in your Art Journal', so I thought I had better get some practise in LOL! I have run this class once before and it was a popular class. Seems like a lot of us want to lose the fear of drawing and rediscover our inner child. (Children don't have a problem with drawing .. have you noticed? The inner critic sneaks up on us as we get older, when we're not looking).
Some of the AFTH regulars have requested that we draw faces / portraits so amongst other things, we will be having a go at that.
I drew this face on a background that I had already done in my journal, and if you look really closely (at the top of the page) you can even see some spill-journaling in pencil underneath. I have no idea what that journaling was about now, and it is forever lost under layers of gesso and paint. The face itself is coloured with acrylic paint, neocolours, prisma-color pencils and a stabilo marks-all pencil ...er ... and probably a few other things along the way, I can't remember!  I know I am not the greatest at drawing faces (or drawing anything come to think of it) and I haven't done any real drawing since I left school, but I'm not going to let a little thing like that put me off. Drawing is like anything - the more you do it, the better you get.

And isn't that what a journal is for? To experiment and play?

So what else have I been up to?

I thought I would make the lovely Dyan a Dylusions inky journal as she is off to the USA soon and wanted something she could carry around easily to share Dylusions techniques with arty peeps along the way. I made something very similar to this before but this one is different in that is totally DYLUSIONS! Inks, stamps and everything!

Here it is as a work in progress. Boy, did my hands get messy on this day!

And here's a few close-ups of the inner pages:

For any of my arty bloggy friends who will be coming to my workshop at the Stamp Attic in November, or any of my Dutch friends who will be coming to some of my classes at De Craftorij in October, we'll be making something very similar to this. Woohoo! Prepare to get inky ;-)

Byeee for now .......

  2. Ohhh, I'm gonna get to see that journal in person when Dyan comes to St Pete, FL! I wish I could come and join you at your classes, Kate. I so need to learn to draw faces with things other than dots for eyes and nose and a single line smile.

  27. Hi Kate, Per usual your use of color excites me so much . It makes me want to rush right to my art journal and start adding spray inks or acrylic paint. Just love your vision and style Would so love to take one of your classes. However the commute would be very trying and expensive. Diane
