A while ago I blogged here, to show you my new camera from Lomography. I shot my first film ... sent it off to be processed ... and waited ... and waited .... and then I got my photos back!! In this digital age we're just not used to waiting for anything are we, but let me tell you I was excited to get my new pics. I had them cross-processed which means you're never sure quite what you're going to get but that's all part of the fun :-) I put a few of them here in this slide show, but because Facebook just yanked my DVD and accused me of copyright violation (Grrrrrr!) this DVD is sadly silent.
So why go back to film photography? What's the difference? Here's the difference.
Shot taken with a digital SLR:
Same shot with film:
Shot with a digital SLR:
And the same shot with film:
And this is one of my favourites (taken with a wide-angle lens) ... my two kids showing that they know how to behave perfectly well at a restaurant:
So that's what you do with those little tubes of sugar!
Mr C looked at this photo and said 'that looks like it was taken 40 years ago'.
Yes.
That's the point.
Now, onto workshops .... I have updated my teaching schedule page here where you can see most of my up-and-coming workshops ... but there will be a few additions so keep checking back. I will be teaching several workshops at my favourite place, Art from the Heart (Harrogate N Yorks) including art journaling, Golden painting techniques, journaling with Stampotique etc, and another whole weekend of journaling woohoo!, and you can see details of all of those here.
And something completely new for me which I am very excited about ... I will be heading 'darn sarf' to teach at the Stamp Attic in Wantage, Oxford!! Woohoo!! You can see all the details here and here. Places are limited so if you want to come and get inky with me be quick!
And if you live in Holland .... watch this space! Ooooooh. Details to follow!
I've always thought there was something slightly clinical about digital and you've just summed the whole thing up for me in this post. Great work with the lens, and the pic of your kids is excellent, Jo x
ReplyDeleteHmm, perhaps the poor peeps who live in Germany can join with the neighbours in Holland! Nice photos! Valerie
ReplyDeleteTruly amazing photographs, no comparrison really is there?! Enjoy your classes they ALL sound soooo much fun ♥

Great pictures Kate! I knew you would love that camera. I'd be interested to know where you sent your film to be x-pro'd I can't find anywhere local that will do it. Happy Snapping!
ReplyDeleteBig love
AJ :-)
Hi AJ, I can't find anywhere local that cross-processes films ... they look at you as if you are mad for even asking! I send them to the lab at Lomography aka Lomolab!
DeleteThanks Kate, I'll have to use the Lomolab too as I've had the same experience as you asking for x-pro at local shops. There were a couple of independent shops that did it but they've gone out of business.
DeleteBig love
AJ
Thanks Kate, I may have to use the lomolab too as no-one local will x-pro film for me, I'm still looking around though, there has to be someone who understands the appeal of saturated colours :-)
DeleteBig Love
AJ :-)
Yes, the Lomo lab is great. Not cheap, but good results. I wince when I have to pay, but I just keep telling myself I'm worth it LOL!
DeleteLove the photos and the differencesbetween the two. May I say that I also appreciate your kids ingenuity and their senses of humour. Diane M
ReplyDeleteFacbook did the same to H a few months ago an stopped him from directly uploading videos - he's just checked and he is permitted again so your ban shouldn't last for ever! Love the pic of the kids - it's just fab x
ReplyDeleteHolland Holland o yes i am one of those girls in Hollland!!!!
ReplyDeleteTel me more more more....... (lol)
Can not wait!!!!!!!!
Kind regrads Patrcia
You can really see the difference with those pictures Kate. Are you using a slide film, or did you get that effect using a normal film with filters? The kids look brilliant, both in stunning focus, love the lens too. Awesome photography Kate. I miss taking pictures with my old Pentax SLR. I used to love processing my own black and whites. Michelle x
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle, Yes, I had the film cross-processed to enhance the effect / colours, and I'm loving it!
DeleteAmazing photos Kate. Beautiful work. Love to see more from your new camera. have fun.
ReplyDeleteLovely greet
marja

Super pics! Especially love the little buggers with their 'staches... they take right after their Mum, don't they?
ReplyDeleteI love these 'old fashioned' photos so very much! It reminds me of the time I developed my own photos - it was magical! I can see that camera was the perfect present for you!
