Paints and inks by Dylusions
Large Bee Wings by Jo Capper-Sandon for Stampotique Originals
Sometimes, especially during the school holidays, there just aren't enough hours in the day for art journaling but I did manage to find a little time when I was on holiday recently.
I drew this figure onto paper (I have been wanting to draw more in my journal for ages but never quite got round to it) coloured her with Prismas, and then added her to my very grungy background. The wings are from Large Bee by Jo Capper-Sandon which were stamped onto acetate:
I absolutely LOVE this quote, and it came from one of the many new stamp ranges by Dylusions at Art from the Heart.
I created the grungy background in my large A4 (12 x 8) Moleskine by first collaging torn squares of text all over the page and covering with a layer of gel medium. I painted over this with Dylusions paints in blue, orange and white, and the paint settled into the gaps of the collaged background giving lots of texture. I then added a few squirts of ink and a few splatters:
I'm pleased with how this page turned out. Doing the collaged background was a bit time-consuming but I love the final effect and will definitely do this again.
Yesterday I taught a full and busy art journaling class at Art from the Heart to a group of entertaining, enthusiastic, like-minded arty ladies. It was Sheila aka Crafty She's birthday and here she is misbehaving:
She had a birthday balloon tied to her chair, had to wear a birthday girl badge all day, and then we all celebrated by eating cake :-) She left with very inky painty hands at the end of the day so she must have had a good time!
You can read more about the class and see some fab examples if you visit Anne's blog here, but be warned, Anne's pages are of an adult nature! Ha ha! Some of these naughty peeps are leading me astray ....
But it was a very productive mess! Just look at the gorgeous, colourful, vibrant pages on display here:
Well done ladies, and thanks for your fabulous and entertaining company all day :-)
What a fantastic page Katy.
ReplyDeleteWonderful fairy. I love all the colors. Awesome.
I LOVE your 'wings' page, it's superb! Love the background, the figure, her wings and the quote. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLooks like lots of fun for all those art journaling ladies. I enjoyed looking at their colourful results.

Fabulous journal page, love the texture and your drawing is fabulous. Tracy x
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely page...I hope you continue to draw on your pages...this delightful one with wings is brilliant! And messy...well in my book, messy is good!
ReplyDeleteThat class looks like it was so much fun and that all the people had such a great time. I often create that type of background, so I agree that it takes forever to glue and position the pieces onto the page. However, you took yours a step further than I. I add bits of gesso that I dry brush on the background. Then I usually add a glaze or a watercolor, so most of the text shows through. I like to use different types of text and different fonts. I really like how your paint settled in the gaps, though. It gives a totally different look. And your little girl is awesome!
ReplyDeleteOoooo I love the way you've painted the girl and particularly because you've not felt the need to paint in big eyes and mouth and I just adore the colours. Thanks for yesterday I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was wonderful to meet friends I'd only met via blog land. xx
ReplyDeleteLove your page Kate, the colours, the composition, it all falls perfectly into place

ReplyDeleteI read your article in Artful Blogging last night. You absolutely inspired me! I journal (write) daily, my art is knitting, crocheting and felting. I definitely want to do a calendar, just not sure how I want to go about it yet. I was thinking perhaps a photo a day or perhaps use my art somehow. Thank you for inspiring me. I am really excited about this. I'm not going to wait until January. I am going to start today.
I will grab your button and put it on my blog. I have yet to create a button. I must do that too.
One more thing; I am a teacher too. I teacher special education in an elementary school. Have a wonderful school year!
Terry
You always seem to strike a perfect balane with your colours, not easy in my book, or should I say journal.Lol! A fantastic journal page, as ever. xx
ReplyDeleteYOU'RE Back... and I had no idea that you had a class in AFTH. I will have a look for another day with you. Your pics from Cornwall look like a lot of fun! Love the hedgehog. The page you made is "tinkling". Not a word, but just a feel I get looking at it! I have been busy too... Filled up a strathmore journal. Almost. ;o))
ReplyDeleteHave a great start for the new school year and see you soon hopefully!
