Last weekend I was supposed to be teaching the Carabelle Collaborative weekend with my wonderful fellow Carabelle Designer, Azoline, at Art from the Heart (Harrogate UK) but the current Virus outbreak caused us to make immediate last minute changes to the plan. We were really sad that Azoline couldn't make it, as we had planned and prepped together for this event.
However the 'die hards' at Art from the Heart still wanted to go ahead and we were very lucky indeed that the one and only Dyan Reavely stepped in with her outlandish crazy colourful input!
The weekend turned out to be a blast! We did loads of printing with the Gel Press and Carabelle Art Printing plates to make lots of yummy backgrounds...
And then created a concertina book full of gorgeous backgrounds with added Carabelle stamps....
We added a mini book within a book to use up the backgrounds and put it in a pocket....
We added 'windows' with Grafix Durlar wet media film, and allowed the fish to swim across!
Azoline wasn't with us in person, but her little gnomes still made an appearance!
Here's a collage of some of the beautiful work and work-in-progress created over the weekend...
And here's the Dylusional version!
Huge thanks to all of the creatives who still came along and made the weekend fabulous success, and of course to the amazing team at Art from the Heart who did a fantastic job of looking after us all in these difficult circumstances.
I didn't know it at the time but it may have been my last class for quite some time as we all prepare to hunker down and wait for this virus to pass, and who knows how long that may take? I will of course continue to make and share art, and I may even get my act together and film Journal Soup 3 haha! But right now I am prioritising family as we all try and work out what the new 'normal' is.
Stay safe everyone. Follow the advice. Stay home. Hide. Make art.
And wash your hands ;-)
After looking at your wonderful work in the Carabelle Collaborative I ave decided to Do a Virus Collaborative
ReplyDeleteIt was a fabulous weekend indeed, Kate. You and Dyan made a great team with lots of lovely ideas and many, many laughs.. Those photos are a great help to show how it all came together, thank you. You are both inspirational, and Art from the Heart is so supportive of us crafters. I am sure over the coming enforced period of isolation we will still be creating quite happily and keeping in touch by watching you however we can. Keep safe and well everyone. Xxx

It does look like you all had a good time, and were able to encourage each other. Love the inspiration you give the rest of us. And I may just have to break out one of my Gelli plates since we are stuck at home, right? :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful stuff, Kate -- and colors to brighten the mood! Do you know of a source in the US to get your art journaling DVDs? I bought 2 (can't remember where) and they were supposed to be playable here but can't be "read" and played. I love your work and would be delighted to have videos I could play and replay.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna, Unfortunately, no, I don't. The company who filmed them - Traplet Pubications - no longer exists so I have no way of tracking down any more. Sorry.
