Art journaling in miniature

I have always had a passion for small things, I just love anything in miniature! So it follows that I sometimes like to journal in miniature.

Recently I taught a mini art journaling class at Art from the Heart (Harrogate UK)  and these were the pages we made on the day. Just because the pages are small (approx 10x15cm) it don'ts mean they are quick ... there is a lot of detail in a small space. I am working in a small Moleskine Folio Moleskine, but any small journal or sketchbook would do.

The page above uses a quote from a song by Coldplay. This particular line had been stuck in my head all day so I had the release the ear worm onto the page! We used a masking technique to create the background on this page by stamping and embossing with clear, and then painting over the embossing before using an iron to remove the embossing powder revealing a pattern. It's a technique I used years ago but decided to have another play with.

One for the things I like about journaling on a small scale is that it is a great space to use your smaller stamps, which often get lost on a larger page. Here I even cut 'Mabel' in half and had her peeking in from the side of the page. (Sorry Mabel!)

I used Florrie Dooodle Dolly in a frame on the next page because I think she looks like she is smiling for the school photographer!

Of course, if you use a frame it also has to work when the other way when you turn the page over:

And a couple more pages ... oops. I cut Mabel in half again!

And here are a couple of pics of the class getting busy on a small scale, and very messy!

And finally ... it's not too late to sign up for this lovely, lovely summer art journaling class which begins on 1st July. 21 short inspirational videos with minimal craft supplies to encourage you to art journal on-the-go this summer. You can find all of the details *here*

Byeeeeee for now :-)

  8. Lovely pages, Kate. I need to try my hand at a mini journal. Mine are collecting dust as I think the large pages are too daunting. Baby steps... ;)
